Importance of "Grant Access Using Hierarchies" in Public Group #inSalesforce
When creating a Public Group, depending on whether you have checked or unchecked "Grant Access Using Hierarchies", records will be shared (or not shared) with users in this group and shared with users higher in the role hierarchy.
That is when Grant Access Using Hierarchies is checked (by default is checked), any records shared with users in this group are also shared with users higher in the role hierarchy.
